FAQs!

What is the PS11 Spring Gala?

The Gala is a festive, social event used to raise funds in support of PS11 Sarah J. Garnet Elementary School. It is a glamorous celebration for the PS11 community and all net proceeds from the evening go to supporting the current and future students who attend. By purchasing a gala ticket or sponsorship, you make a tangible difference in ensuring that we reach our goal for our staff and deserving students.

Is there a theme?

The theme of this gala will be disco! We'll fill the space with disco balls and shiny things! The attire is still black tie optional, but glitter and sequins are always most welcome ;)

Where is the Gala??

The Gala will take place at Rubin Museum of Art, 150 W 17th St, New York, NY 10011

Wait! I thought the Rubin was closing!?!

Sadly, yes! The Rubin will be converting its museum space ... but not until October! After October, it will operate as an event space.

Where do the funds go?

100% of net proceeds from the Gala go to the day to day needs of students and the PS11 Staff. This includes, but is not limited to, basic classroom supplies, additional support teachers, off-site trips, programming, and so much more.

What time does it begin and end?

The main event will kick off at 730PM following a private cocktail party for VIP ticket holders.

What is the dress code for the evening?

Black tie optional! Cocktail dresses, gowns, suits & tuxes! While the decor theme of this gala is disco, no pressure to wear disco attire. That said, all sequins, glitter or disco ball earrings are welcome!

Will there be food & drinks?

Absolutely! We'll have an open bar for the entire evening. Last year, the hors d'oeuvres didn't quite make it all the way across the floor! So this year we're working with the catering team to ensure more even distribution and more food!

Will there be entertainment?

There will be a live band, dancing, a raffle, a live auction and many fun things to keep you busy and entertained.

Can I buy a ticket for a teacher or staff member?

Yes! Staff tickets are available for $100 per person and can be purchased via the ticketing page. The school will run a lottery to distribute the tickets we purchase for staff.

What is it more advantageous to the school to buy a sponsorship (with tickets) vs. a ticket?

As a fundraising event, the annual Gala is one of the most significant sources of revenue each year in support and ensuring equality amongst students. 100% of our net proceeds go to the PTA annual fund. Between tickets and sponsorships, the latter are more expensive and generally more profitable. That's why it's typically businesses who purchase them!

Can my dietary restrictions be accommodated?

Yes, we will ensure that all dietary restrictions are met and understood by our catering service. You will be contacted prior to the event to confirm any dietary restrictions.

Is my ticket tax deductible?

Given the way that costs work for this event, we will not know till closer to the gala what portion of the ticket might be tax deductible. We will update this page as soon as we are certain. Please email us at ps11ptaevents@gmail.com with any questions!

The tax deductibility of auction items can be calculated by subtracting the fair market value of the product from the final price paid; the difference is 100% tax deductible. Note that while items like dinners and trips have an assessable fair market value, many experience items (ex. waffle parties with staff) have a fair market value of $0. In those cases, 100% of your auction purchase would be tax-deductible.

I can't come to the gala! Can I still make a donation?

Absolutely! We are so appreciative of any donation to the Gala, as it helps us reach our overall goal in support of critical student needs. If you can't make it to the Gala, consider purchasing a ticket for one or a few teachers or making a donation to the PS11 PTA's Annual Fund.
